Customize Gear Box for connection Turbine and Generators
HOUSING: made of electric welded steel, with a
double stress-relieving annealing treatment, after the
welding and before the finishing in order to eliminate
any residual tension. After the final welding the
housings are sand-blasted to SA grade 2 ½ .
The housings are machined to a minimum
precision grade UNI 5, DIN 5 ( Agma 12) .
GEARS: spur double helical type, casehardened,
quenched and ground.
Hardness:
gearwheel: 55 ¸ 58 HRC
pinion: 58 ¸ 60 HRC
Grinding according to the precision class UNI 5 ( DIN 5
( AGMA 12) .
The gearwheel and the pinion are obtained from
forgings; material: 18NiCrMo5.
SLOW SHAFT: the slow shaft onto which the
gearwheel will be shrunk is made of hardened and
tempered steel, type 39NiCrMo3, hardness 210 – 240
HB.
FAST SHAFT: integrated with the pinion is will be
made of casehardening steel 18 NiCrMo5
BEARINGS: Slow shafts: thrust and radial combined
bearings; thrust bearing will be Tapered-Land type.
Fast shaft : tilt-pad journal bearings ( no misalignment,
vibration and over-heating problems)
The bearings are designed and manufactured by CAT.
COVERS: the covers at the input and at the output are
manufactured in two halves, the seals are mechanical
with the possibility of an air flow. Material: aluminium.
The covers have holes for the installation of no-contact
feelers to detect vibrations.
BALANCING: the gears are balanced dynamically
according to API 613 standards, the pinion with the half
joint ( supplied by the customer) and the gearwheel on
the shaft.
TEMPERATURE: the bearing temperature is detected
by thermoresistances type PT 100 inserted near the
white metal in the area with the maximum load.
6 Nos double ( separated) thermo detectors
4 Nos contact thermometers, installed near the bearings.
The thermal elements are wired.
ACCESSORIES: Barring device installed opposite
from the fast shaft and composed of:
a.c. motor
SSS coupling
Worm gearbox
GEAR PUMP: driven by the gearbox slow shaft
through an oscillating toothed joint.

REQUIREMENTS.
TESTS: The no load tests, at the maximum speed, are
made in our workshop at the presence of customers’
supervisors, according to the agreed quality control
plan.
The following checks are usually made during the no
load test:
• Noise level
• Bearing temperature
• Vibration control
• Check of the correct operation of the instruments
• Check of the barring equipment
• Check of the driven pump functionality
